HT clutch I

Hine Takurua (winter maiden), is one of the wives of Tamanuiterā (the sun) along with her sister Hine Raumati.  Hinetakurua is personified by the star Sirius, which is the brightest star in the night sky. Her realm is the ocean and her task is to produce & conserve fish.  She has many children with Tamanuiterā each representing different elements of winter. 

We have used different symbolic shapes, niho taniwha (triangles) in a stylised tāniko (band of weaving) pattern to represent Hine Takurua and her relationship with her husband and sister.

Dimensions: 300mm W x 140mm L

Handmade and crafted in Kirikiriroa, Aotearoa (Hamilton, NZ) these bags are made from locally sourced wool felt and the seams are hand sewn with cotton cord. This clutch also comes with a repurposed leather button fastener.
